Re: Read Only mode
The quick respond is to /File /Relieve As under another name. At that place is perchance a left over lock file, either in the directory of the original file, or in your OpenOffice User contour. To see this y'all volition have to enable "View hidden files". How you exercise this depends on your operating organisation. You can then delete any such lock files when OpenOffice is closed. Note that you should not misfile the lock files with their owning file - the lock files are much smaller.

Work in .odt format rather than .doc format. I have seen so many posts about trouble with passworded documents I personally would not use passwords - I'd keep any sensitive documents on a USB hard drive which I would keep safe.

Re: Read Only mode
Open your read-only file. Make a new OpenOffice file and open information technology. Ctrl A to select everything in it. With menu item Window change to your new bare file. Ctrl V to paste the contents of the original file. At present Salve that file. Do not use a password. Does it open for editing?

Re: Read Just mode
In that location are so many problems reported with passwords on OpenOffice - whether these are OO problems or user problems I cannot say - in add-on to the password being effectively uncrackable if forgotten, that I would never recommend anyone to password a file. Much easier to keep any sensitive file on a private USB device which you go on in your briefcase. (And observe the USB removal protocols!)
